My father and I started fishing by the lower camp ground, below the bridge, around 9:00am. A river otter started cruising the area and eating crayfish on the rocks....and scaring fish.
While the otter was munching away, a small bob cat jumped out of the woods to take the food away from the otter. At first the otter swam off but returned to harass the bob cat and try to get its breakfast back. It was comical to watch the two play cat and otter for a bit. The bob cat finally took off but the otter decided to show up wherever we fished throughout the afternoon.
On the fishing side I got skunked by Putah today. I missed a few hits on a WD-40 and had a large trout follow my moss covered zebra midge to the shore, so I decided to throw on a modified green wooly bugger with a small spinner on the front. That trout followed it all around and came to the shore a couple of times but simply would not hit it.
Also, fish were in the gravel shallows at access 2. Wasn't sure if they were spawning so I let them be.
Hoping for better luck next time, but it was still a lot of fun.
Im 25 and have only seen 1 mountain lion and 2 bobcats in my life. That is a rare treat and would trade a lot of fish to see any one of those again! Oh well... the fish have to win sometimes too! :)
