I thought this may be interesting topic. The question is what 5 dryflys and what 5 wets would you use if those were the only 10 you could use in putah creek? Any of you guys ever stop and pickup some fly's at the winter's store? I got a few red midges last weekend and everyone single one of them starting coming apart after a short time of use.

These are the flies I have had luck with in the past 4 months of fishing Putah.


Dry (size 14,16,18)


Mosquito, irresistable, elk hair caddis, BWO, royal coachman


Wet/nymph (size 14,16,18,20)


Elk hair emerger, gold ribbed hares ear, prince, Flashback pt

Dries -> Size 16-22 P.Adams, BWO, PMD, Tricos, Elk Hairs


Wet -> Size 16-26 Zebra Midge, PT Flash, Micro May, May Fly Emerger, WD40


The smaller the better on the wets, it never does me wrong.
