I haven't been up there for a few months either, however the last time I was up there, I was dismayed by the amount of trash around...Bottom line is that it says something about the character of some of the people fishing Putah.

I'm not sure there is really any answer ....

However glad to hear you had some success.....

I've been fishing the American at Watt Ave. this summer quite a bit just practising spey casting
and watched 2 families wheel their babies down to the water's edge. Right in front of everybody,
they at one point began to wash the diapers in the river! Anyhow, if anyone is interested, we could meet and clean the island, and have a barbecue in the parking lot at access 5. As much as I hate the thought of cleaning up after pigs, I consider Putah my second home and try to look after it. We could make it fun and worthwhile. I always see quite a bit of unexpected wildlife
in the area, and they deserve better as well.

It will be nice when the weather cools down. It will deter the majority of the ones making the mess-people looking for a place to party. When trout season ends, worm containers and salmon egg jars shouldn't show up anymore. I don't want to sound prejudice against bait fishermen. I used to be one, and I know that all of them don't trash the creek. I just wish that everyone would respect the creek and the outdoors for that matter.

It seems to me that alot of the trash occurs around the times when they plant fish. I don't know how many times I've seen as many as 25 "fisherman" dotting the bank, catching a 5 gallon bucket of planters and then leave the area a complete and total wreck. With so many cars in the parking lot, you can't tell who drives what as most stay until well after dark. I can not figure out why fish & game does not show around the plant dates and issue citations for people taking more than their limit and fishing with out a license. (a great way to increase funding for more planters btw ) But yet I have been hasseled during the week by F&G because my barbs were sticking up "just a little to high". I buy barbless when I can find them, but most shops flies have barbs and you have to flatten them yourselves. My pliers have small grooves in them and sometimes I just can't get them mashed completely flat; guess I'll just file them off.

It's the same old story every year,year after year,but after each bait season there lies tons of trash around the creek mostly in areas where the bait folks like to dunk they're worms and power bait.Then the fly only season begins and certain fly clubs and I believe even the Boy Scouts all chip in and clean up the mess.Last week when I fished the resort area I picked up at least 10 to 12 corona bottles a bag of Doritos a empty pack of cigarettes one container of worms (with worms still in it which I happily fed to the fish!) and a few other misc items.This was all found within about 75 sq ft area of where I was fishing.Am I picking on bait fisherman? Absolutlely not,the majority of bait folks are just as responsible as any fly guy-girl but it seems that there is an element of scum bags out there that just don't have an ounce of self respect,respect for nature or respect for anyone else and it just seems that these idiots will never go away and it will be the responsibility of folks like ourselves to follow them around and play a janitor role.If anybody knows info about any of the up-coming trash pick up days on the creek please post it on this site and I will do the same.

I would love an opportunity to help out! I have been in Alaska most of the summer, but I love my fall return to Putah! Maybe Bono can make a sticky and organize a cleanup sometime before the fly-only season?

I was out there that day and saw you at the bridge picking up garbage, that was great. We need anglers like yourself. What about getting a garbage can at the entrance to the bridge? Or would people probally knock it over and spill what's inside?
