Just a follow up report, with temps that pushed 113 in Sac, fishing was tough. I did not see very many salmon splashing around, and only caught one shad the entire day...
yeah...i fished the south fork of the american and the silver fork (just passed kyburz). not much to speak of, all the trout i saw were quite small (less then 6in.).caught nothing and fished hard! is the south fork a good stream?? i was fishing just down stream of the silver fork inlet. any advice or spots anyone would like to share? it seemed like great trout water, nice pools, big runs, etc... but no action. not many bugs though... it was cooler up there ~ 90 which felt like 60
I've only fished the South Fork once and didn't catch anything. The water looked nice but I couldn't find any takers. I've caught tons of fish on the Silver Fork, though, the biggest being a 20" brown. What part of the Silver Fork were you fishing? I usually fish just below Silver Lake.

I fished up by the south fork, close to a CG on the silver fork road. I only went down stream about 2 miles or so from the South Fork American. Have you fished up there (silver fork) at all? I did catch the smallest trout of my life though! ~2-3 in. I will have to go all the way down to the lake next time! the water looked great, at both the South fork american and the silver fork, but no action.
