fished all day on the back side of the first island above lake solano, fish caught,8 total ,5wild all around 10 to 14 inches. I really thought i was gonna get my first nice brown trout, i fished a nice looking area and seen a nice brown of at least 25 inches rise three times in the same spot, i tossed everything i had for nearly 3 hours at him and no way he wanted anything to do with my offerings, but thats ok i now know were he resides, i'll be back this weekend for round two. this area around the first island has some most excellent looking spots. ok so im fishing enjoying myself and a guy cruises by in a kayak, he stops and sits on the bank not more then 20 yards up stream, a few mins. later i look over and this guy is standing there in plain veiw totally nakkid, what a freak! a little later im hiking around eating massive amounts of black berrys mindin my own business and some guys german shepard comes after me and it wasnt barking in a nice tone, out comes fillet knife and i thought here we go, owner runs up and handles his dog, he apoligezes and i say if you cant control your dog keep it on a leash. he didnt say much. can you now park in the day use areas free of charge i noticed the pay stations are all wrapped up. one more thing, there is a picture of a guy who supposedly caught what appears to be a very nice brookie in pardesa store, brookies in putah? is this possible?
I believe something strange happened at the hatchery this winter and "other" fish are making it in to Putah with the stockings. Although, earlier this year I caught a very small fish I would have sworn was a chinook. I know that's not possible, but I've spoken with other people and have shown them pictures of fish that I've caught in places where they don't "belong". I was told that with all the flood water we had, it's quite possible to catch nearly anything in the SAC river system in just about any body of water that was connected by the floods. I still catch small fish every now and again that look like some sort of hybrid or who knows what.
I've read some articles from u.c davis about chinnoks that make it all the way up putah creek to the davis area and possibly to stevensons bridge near dixon. anyone ever seen any?
Chinook salmon will run all the way to diversion dam on Putah, and at times in the late fall or early winter Solano Irrigation District will open the dam gates for maintenance and these adult fish will swim up the creek.I have a few buddies that have actually caught a couple of these fish. Also the DFG has planted Chinooks in Lake Berryessa a few years back for sport fishermen and it's quite possible that a few of these fish have gone over the glory-hole during the winter.
About 2 years ago in late November I was fishing around access #2 in the fast water and right in clear sight I saw a beat up looking salmon roll right in front of me, It was pretty beat, had white patches all over him. He was probilly in the 25+ maybe close to 30" range. It amazed the hell out of me that day..
