I fished the creek today for a couple of hours. I don't think that I have ever had such a bad landed/hooked ratio. I hooked 8 fish but only landed 2: one a little hatchery fish, the other a 14 inch football. I thought the one was a lot bigger because of how fat he was.
I see what everybody has been talking about with all of the moss. I tried to make the best of it, though. I picked the moss apart to see what was living in it and got a pretty good idea what the fish were eating. There were tons of midge larvae and mayfly nymphs with a few caddis larvae. All of the bugs were really small. The biggest that I saw was probably about a #20. The majority were in the #22-26 range. Others were even smaller.
It was nice to get out and take a break from work, at least for a half a day.

Yeah I would have to agree the fishing has been slow with a few exceptions but thats pretty typical for this time of year in the creek.Things should stabilize and have been already and the fishing should start picking up a little. No real hot flies I've been trying just about everything and every once in a while will find a fly or color the fish want (like a San Juan worm the other day)but then the next day the fish won't touch it!!
