i have hammered away for endless hours trying to get a brownie out of that creek and im beginning to wonder just how many are in there. can anyone give some advice on spots to try? and the type of spots that they tend to like, i assume they must like a different type of water then im used to catching the rainbows in. I was also curiouse if they reproduce in there? I was thinking about hitting it tommorrow but the flows are really up and down, and man its hot up there, not sure i wanna drive all the way up there to fish in those conditions. Any advice is always appreciated guys, thanx.
I caught a couple of browns up there a couple of years ago..might have just found the right pool..I normally catch rainbows(or get skunked)...
I was up there on Friday and flows around certain island/rocky areas were moving pretty quick.. hard to fish..the longer flat deep stretches were moving a bit but weren't too bad...if you got out, let me know how the fishing was...
Browns in Putah are pretty rare especially above access#5,some people have mis identified some wild rainbows in the creek as Browns due to the yellowish color some of these bows tend to have.Yes some people have caught some nice browns in the fall but these are very few and unfortunately some of these fish were activley spawning (shame shame).
you just answered my question. about 15 years ago i caught a 28 inch trout out of putah and it was really yellow and had quit a kype on him. recently i started to wonder if maybe it was a brown, but im pretty sure it was a rainbow now, never since have seen one that was so yellow. i saw this fish a week prior to catching him, i didnt have a rod with me. so i went back following weekend and caught him first cast, that is the fish i am most proud of, sorry to say i caught it on bait. i never have been able to get back to that spot, and my it is a very special and diffucult spot to get to, must have really low flows. and i'll never tell were it is, heehee.
