Labor day trip in Sept. Looking for advice "if" I get to fish,I got 2 hand rods for big flys, and 1 hand rods. The Ferndale bridge is close but the regs are a little confusing.
Ive only fished the eel system in the winter, there could be chinook starting to swim up but probably not in fishable numbers until first rains. Unlike the russian where they cannot be targeted, on the eel i believe you can catch and release chinook. There were summer steelhead historically in the middle fork of the eel, like covelo dos rios area, but very little if any left and closed to fishing now when they would be in there. Eel system (main stem, south fork, van duzen) is generally a winter time fishery. Could be good for a few squawfish though around labor day and its a beautiful place to visit regardless.
