Hi all, Been awhile since I've posted on this forum but I wanted to share an experience. When we go fishing we think of things that can cause harm to us. Rattlesnakes, Bears, Falling, Mountin lions, Other people etc. I never really thought about being hit by a landslide.
Last saturday I was fishing in the eastern sierra. Just climbed down to a spot and as I stood there deciding how to fish this spot. All of a sudden I hear a noise like I have never heard before. Almost sounded like a really loud stereo playing music with alot of bass. I look up behind me and I see a huge cloud of dust. Instantly I say LANDSLIDE !!!! The 5 minute climb down to the river took me about 5 seconds to get back up, LOL amazing how fast one can move at my age. Just about right were I was standing a boulder about half the size of a mid sized car comes down and lands in the river along with a pickuptruck load size of gravel and small rocks. I would have been killed if that boulder hit me.
Hey Shawn I am so glad to hear you survived it would have been a sad day to hear you had been killed , A word to the wise Putah Creek has a few trees killed by recent wildfires still standing leaning over trails waiting to fall on an unsespecting hiker or fisherman , I have contacted DFW and was dismissed several times twicw by I cant remember his name at this moment , But I really feel like its a mistake to underestimate the danger of nature , it sad it takes someone dieing to get things fixed
