, I recently decided i like the idea of having a portable shack set off to the side maybe on the concrete slab up by the bridge parking lot , I can already hear all the voices making there points of opposition DFG wouldnt allow it or it would get broke into or stolen . But it would be really be nice to have a place to sit and warm a can of Chili or make a pot of coffee and recharge the batteries before heading back to hit the river for a second session . Nothing fancy just a shack

you could have some hooks on the wall for coffee cups with a few extra for the DFG guys , Tim B and Erick S . So when they show up you could just say hey Tim want a cup of coffee    .  LOL

The first thought that comes to mind is that drugs are bad. With a little more thought. Throw a picnic bench up there on that little slab and secure it with a wedge anchor and piece of chain. Don't advertise it and deny any involvement. Outside of that, tailgate of your truck. Final thought, drugs are bad.

Sounds like ice fishing. I like the thought but seems out of place.

If its cold enough to need a shack to retreat too then most likely its spawning time, And one really shouldn't be fishing Putah. Anyways do you realize the red tape you'd have to go through to accomplish this. Its unreasonable.

I think you all are getting it wrong . Im not looking for a place to get out of the cold or get high . Its just a place to sit down and heat a can of Chili or make a sandwich

You get permits for it? County approved plans? Up to code? More to it than asking DFG verbally.

If you build a shack on public land next to the creek, I'm building a home next door and making it private land and then knocking your shack down. Sorry.

You dreamed it up Richard, you don't need help to get it started. Take the ball and run.

Just 2 walls and a lid would be a great thing or even one side wall just a wind break so i could fire up my stove and heat water for coffee or some chili

My honest take on this hole thing. Fire up the stove on the tailgate of your truck or trunk/hood of your car. If the wind is blowing enough that you need a hobo shack then your probably not up at the creek fishing anyway. If I was dead set on building something up there it would probably just be a picnic table/bench.

I've carried lunch/coffee on other rivers (Pit/Yuba/Feather/Mad/Trinity) but can't remember ever taking a break at Putah to heat up coffee or lunch, perhaps I'm the odd duck out. I've got some pretty small stoves/cook kits and never thought to carry them in my vest. For coffee I have used a smallllll thermos. Space and weight is too much of a premium for much else.

Those not using a drift boat, how many of you do streamside lunches and to what extent?

I bring a sandwich and sit down on a rock to eat it. Seriously, I believe less is way way way more. Especially in an error where conservation is so important, considering dwindling anadromous runs and pressure on resident trout populations, it is imperative not to disturbing these areas and/or increase accessibility. Solely for our petty creature comforts. Building structures near the riparian zone is just altering the natural landscape we need and all enjoy so much. Aside from my joking about knocking it down, I do truly believe this idea of a guide shack is extremely disrespectful to the creek and the natural landscape. Like others have said, just use your tailgate. Don't alter the area any more than it already is. I would argue we should move to remove the resort, or remove access points, or even remove the bathrooms at 4. Let's make it a more wild area for wildlife, not less wild.

Hey Andrew I hope your doing well after the fire and chiming in. I get it not everyone want to see more human development of any kind and I might agree up to the point of no toilets  you see I already pick up old water bottles, shoes , plastic bags, cigarette butts , plus Tires and a varity of toxic chemicals that have been dumped , Mattresses and all sorts of bedding sleeping bags  paint, Human feces, Im not making this part up yes human crap . Yes I did ! I got an old piece of paper from the trash cans you apparently want removed to make it totally natural and picked up human feces.  Hell who ever decided to **** did it right on the edge of the trail / River transition so i did the unthinkable and picked up **** because I love Putah to and want to see her cared for and loved , but removing the bathrooms and parking lots might be going a bit far in my opinion unless you want to join me and start helping me doing **** and trash patrol . Sorry if I'm going to far I'm just a little testy from reliving the picking up **** story and the cigarettes I see left along the river .   So Steve can always use another volunteer with PCT . truth be told I can't always volunteer either as I run a small guide service and need to take what work i can ,  as I'm sure you do  PS Lets keep the bathrooms , I think I might have gone to far , Again   See you all on the river

Yea, if you need to cook something to eat at PC you’re not too far from your vehicle or the resort eating area. There are tons of downed trees that make for a good bench to eat on if you don’t wanna walk back to your vehicle. This thread has gone on long enough. It’s a bad idea.

I referenced Lois Wolk regarding the development of the IDR no  Skol Bandit is dead right spot on!!!!!

Richard, you do a lot for the creek but keep in mind you are not alone or unique.  Not everyone posts or talks about their contributions.  You are NOT the only one to pick up trash, poop etc etc.

I don't always agree with Ross, but he's right, let it go.

Thank you for your contribution, Richard. And thank you for your generosity and kind words, as well. I did not mean in any way to suggest that you don't help the creek. It's obvious you care deeply about it. I just happen to think we should keep the riparian zone and natural landscape as undeveloped as possible. Riparian cover is extremely important and I fear it will be continuously diminished if we keep building on the creekside. We already have the resort, a ton of RV's, many parking areas, bathrooms, and a road right next to the creek. If we keep adding more structures, i.e. the guide shack, then we will just keep diminishing the natural zone. At some point, less is more. I feel that time is now.

Omg the riparian habitat!
Let’s all come online in a public forum and spew about how important natural resources are!
Make sure to post you tube videos and fb also!
Everyone needs to know what a great resource we have and where it’s located and when it gets good...

Guide shack is not feasible because of the public factor. You might think it’s a gr at idea but so will scum who drink cough syrup.
Seen it firsthand and worse in that area. You think you will go in there and not find fresh feces from some boozing nitwits?

Really?

I have an awning on my van that you can zip and attach walls to to block the wind. I know your vehicle is a bit smaller. maybe opt for a small easy up with walls when youre out with clients or something

It's a great idea that would have been possible one upon a time. Unfortunately, it would have to be protected by an armed guard 24-7 to keep it from being destroyed in no time, by the ever increasing numbers of worthless pieces of garbage that stumble around the countryside these days. It's a shame. Every time we go out to spend a day or even a few hours at whatever stream , we run the risk of returning to our car to find broken glass and possessions missing. It's just the way it is.
