Putah is getting hammered and it's probably fishing well.  That's why no body is talking.

I wonder where the 'big browns' have been hiding all this time?

Very strange info from that fishing report, I’ve not caught or seen a brown in Putah in at least 15 Years .

I know. The site has a log of reports dating back a solid year and they mention browns a lot. I was curious to see if anyone had an idea of who's site it actually is.

It's time to stop blowing up the fishing. My past three trips I have found beer cans, food wrappers and other detritus from what I am assuming to be fly fishermen as it was on the far side of the bank. And I found a fresh empty Coors lite can at the crossing. That on may well be from this guy who lives in the area. He spin fishes for the most part and I have seen him drinking Coors Lite (Ewwww) several times. As well, I crossed paths at Four with some dude smoking a cigarette and being none too careful about it. I mentioned that it was really dangerous ( Sonoma was on fire at the time ) and he just gave me attitude. Jackass.

I’d imagine most of the trash is from folks partying at the creek rather than fisherman spin or fly. Putah creek is the closest quality wild trout fishery to the Bay Area. It’s been “blown up” for a good while now and always will be. As far as brown trout go, there was a post by someone on here within the past year with a picture of a brown allegedly caught at putah, think he said access 5 What happened to that post? Seems to be deleted... it was intriguing as he was a member on this forum for years and had multiple folks vouch for him...if I’m not mistaken bonovich chimed in. Does anyone recall this post/what member started it? I’m definitely not referring to the one that was an April fools joke.

I looked up The Perfect Fly Store and found no river west of the Mississippi on their tailwaters report.

We would all like to see the fishing community as being pretty enlightened, but I have yet to see non fishermen the far side of the bank at four, or in the other places I go to, as they require crossing the creek, and until last week, it was running at 200 or better. No, it is fishing people leaving their garbage lying around, and that includes used toilet paper scattered about the trails and not even buried. And let's add the loads of used tippet as well. And it may already be blown up, but I see no reason to add to the crowd.

Fished the riffle at #4 and around #5 today.  Worms, baetis, and midges all produced. image.jpeg

Fished sat and sun last weekend. Frankly, it was pretty frustrating due to the sheer volume of people.

Once the water gets below 200 lots of fisherman come to fish putah. It’s nothing new. Just pray a closure happens for the spawn. One of the reasons I stop fishing PC around sept/oct. I’m not battling to fish spawners.

There will always be people fishing the spawners each year, short of a seasonal closure (slippery slope).

Wednesday November 8: Cloudy, cold, chance of rain.

It's mid-week and the weather sucks, fewer people will show up on the river; so I thought I'd skip work and go today instead of Saturday or Sunday. Wrong. I encountered 4 fishermen at the island and 7 at access #4. Some came late, some were fishing from the street side. Total count, including me: 12 fishermen between #4 and the island riffles. There may have been more as I didn't walk back down to the island after 1:00 PM.

This is the most people I've seen fishing Putah on a weekday.

So just keep on posting pictures of fish and telling everyone what you use and where. That will make the crowds disappear for sure.

Yup. Posting pics are awesome but keep areas tight lip. I mean there’s large fish up and down the river but dude posted exact area. Some people like to stand in line to take a turn fishing spots.

Worms, baetis, and midges are all standards of any tailwater fishery year round.  Beat the crowds by getting up early.  I hardly see anyone before 11.  If I do,  I keep searching for open water.  Last time I checked this thread was labeled "Anyone fishing lately?" Everyone gets skunked on the creek whether it's the crowds, weather, flow changes, lack of hatches, etc.

I'll go a step further and say why post pictures? We've all caught at least one "big one", we know they're there and what they look like.

Taking pictures of fish, especially if you're alone, takes time and puts additional stress on the fish. Just congratulate yourself you caught and netted a big one and release the poor fellow ASAP.

**** that. Look dude, we GET IT. You stick some nice fish. Now put your ego away and grow up a little. Or a lot. This is a small creek with a limited amount of water and NOBODY who actually cares about the place wants it blown up any bigger than it already is. Do The locals a favor and shut the **** up. Ok? Go fish the Stan if you want to brag.

I think some heads need to chill out. It’s always pounded harder this year. Anything below 200 cfs brings the crowds. Pics aren’t bad and his fish was still in the water. We’re all passionate about this watershed. This fish wasn’t spewing eggs so no need to chew the dude out. We all go on this forum to brag a little.
