a big pod of kayakers came right on up as I was fishing the turn behind five. Dude in helmet ( on Putah?, Really? ) comes right on up on where I was casting. I asked him to show a little class but he just sneered at me. Next time that happens I am gonna start casting right at the guy. What a bunch of jerks.

Happened to me several times this summer. Few saw me casting and actually turned around. Others apologize as they paddle right trough. Yet others ask for directions: "Can I make a loop back to the start?" or "A friend took the other fork, do we meet at some point?"

If the person shows some sort of respect for my space, I usually smile as they paddle by. Most are clueless to the needs of a fisherman, in which case I keep casting as if they weren't there.

On the Truckee, in the summer and early fall, as many as 35 or so rafting boats float past fly fishermen in one day (I think that's all the commercial permits allow). They not all come at once but are spread out over a period of a few hours. I find that fish are not spooked by these rafts as I have caught fish soon after they pass.

Once in the water kayakers are in the current paddling down stream. They usually go by as fast as possible. I stop casting for a minute or two while they go by. No big deal.

my gripe with the kayakers are with the "improvements" they make to the river. I got into it with a guy who told me about the tree they cut out below deer sign.

I have no problem with people whipping downstream. Jerk face was chundering UPSTREAM and whipping the water to a froth.

I actually watched that scumbag cut that tree that was in the water. Told him he needed a permit for that.
