Power Bait and Worms
Permalink

Hey Guys,

caught a guy using power bait at section 1 on Friday. I informed him of the regulations and he apologized and left. He said he had no clue it wasn't allowed. Right after that I found four containers of worms and other trash left on the bank (I filled my net up with all the litter). Can we get more signs put up of the regulations (I would gladly help hang new signs etc.) Also, I've never seen a wildlife officer at the creek to help regulate the rules and was wondering, has anyone seen any out there?

Report it to CalTip. The only way we get more enforcement out there is by drawing more attention to the area.

There are signs everywhere throughout the creek. People just don't care to read them.

Most people who say they don't know are full of it. There are signs literally everywhere.

I brought it up to a family of 4 fishing with worms and the grandpa trying to snag.."I catch salmon this way!" he was proclaiming to his grandson.

They said they didn't see any signs and that they never see a warden.

I told them I see the warden often even though in 2 years I have never seen one.

I tried to explain how it's important to keep the stream clean and the fish wild yadyada..their eyes glazed over and said it's just fish...

Then I would've replied with "it's just the law", took pics, and told them the warden will meet them here if they stuck around.

There was a family there sunday as well at #3. I didn't say anything because i didn't want to ruin their outing. Saw how they were fishing and don't think they could catch anything anyways. The passing thunderstorm scared them away shortly after.. Glad nature intervened.

Also a pic from the same day. They are out there still in that fast water!

Thanks for reporting bait fishers. Please keep it up. PCT can work for increased warden presence/enforcement if we have evidence that the numbers of violators is X number per day/week/or month.

Hey rossflyguy thanks for giving us a good comeback when people say "they're just fish";I've heard that line a few times from people getting cited by wardens, keeping more fish than limit allows etc, and it just drives me nuts to hear it. some people just don't get it at all
