Looking at the annual flow chart, mid-April is when summer high flows start. It appears that we will be transitioning from this winter's high flow right into summer high flow. I will miss the easy 100-200 cfs waters.
I prefer the lower flows as well Fornacino, but I'll take anything I can get right now. In the first week of January I fished for Steelhead at the American for the first time...loved it! I enjoyed it so much I dropped $700 on a 6wt outfit...and then the rain hit. I haven't cast the new rod once, or any other rod for that matter. High flows or not, I'm Jonesing pretty hard and need a fix!
I feel your pain, man. I might take a chance at it next Thursday, as the only sunny day in the forecast. I looked at the creek last Friday and saw a few, new "fishable" spots. If I think of it as the Truckee or the Yuba, then it doesn't look so intimidating.
If you're gonna be using nymphs try large nymphs that stand out. I watched people use the typical 20-18 nymphs in this less than 2' visibility water. No chance those fish see that stuff.

Did you use nymphs to catch that nice 20 incher, if I may ask?
I wouldn't bet that the flows will bump up soon. The flows aren't like old faithful–we don't know when they turn up and down. In reality, they are a response to the agricultural needs of Suisun valley farmers. Since we had such heavy precip this year, I doubt they would need to ramp up flows past 400 cfs until at least early June or even later. Last year, the highest we saw over the summer was just under 800, and that was after five years of extreme drought.... The less water from the sky, the higher the flows!

They need to make room for runoff. I'd doubt they'd lower the water at all. Right now it's mainly the gloryhole pushing water in. The water temp is definitely warmer since it's not being taken near the bottom of the lake.
Hello gentlemen,
I'm new to the forum. I'm headed to the creek in a few days and I hope to make friends.
I believe in having good stream etiquette and I have respect for the environment and wildlife.
Targeting the soft water with big nymphs and streamers sounds like the way to go!
Thanks a lot, see you on the creek.
Tough break guys. I was able to fish 5 for 4 hours or so yesterday. It was my first time out in 3 months. I caught a little guy in the first hour and nothing after that. It sure was nice getting out though.
