I grew up in San Francisco, CA and never fished Putah Creek. I'm back for Thanksgiving and decided to give it a shot this morning. Water was a bit high and I wasn't quite sure where to go, but ended up just hiking around and came upon a school of about 6 massive fish.
Were they salmon. The glare was bad, but I snapped one photo. I'm pretty sure that in the school was at least one huge rainbow, a real trophy, but almost impossible to cast to with a fly rod.
Walked around, but saw signs for spawning fish so decided to sit and watch the fish. Can't wait to try again.

No Salmon up there, those were spawning trout. Just a fyi, the water is actually rather low right now. It may have been a set of tired eyes on my part but driving by this afternoon it looked a little lower than earlier in the week?
BTW Chris, welcome to California. Spend some time looking through the board or at Kienes forum and you'll find a lot of opportunities to fish throughout the year.
