Hey Guys so I'm new to the forum and decided to share my experience at putah recently. So I am pretty new to fly fishing(1 year), actually to fishing in general. Just started in the summer of 2014 in Mono County Twin lakes, well the first trout I caught I was hooked, i got the itch to fish. Being fairly new to fly fishing I decided to wait to fish Putah creek due to everybody saying how hard it was to catch a fish here. I told my self I would go when I am ready, so finally I felt decent enough to head out there first time in October this year 10/13. Did alright that day caught a bunch of little guys on drys early morning around 0930 at fishing access #4 and started nymphing and got nothing in the afternoon. Still a fun day, flows were 250 and water was cold and clear. So I decided to take a "sick day" yesterday 10/23 (thank god no one at my work likes to fish or else they would find me there ) started off seeing some fish making some splashy rises also at #4 but the water was stained and low. Started nymphing shortly after no action with the dries got a couple 12" on a #20zebra midge and as I was leaving decided to hit one last hole. So I cast a couple times and bam I set the hook not knowing if I got snagged against a log or got a fish, this monster was so heavy for the first second I thought I was pulling in a log but then I see it a MONSTROUS trout took my #20 zebra midge. I fight for 30 seconds which all felt like I was dreaming and then SNAP goes my 5X tippit, all gone in a matter of seconds. I try to manage to tie and set up my rod to get back to it and re hook this beast but my hands were shaking of excitement. So I lost the biggest fish I have ever caught on a fly rod, but surprisingly I wasn't upset I was still happy because I got to feel what it feels like to have a putah creek monster on the end of my line.
