Putah Report 5/31

Had a few hours free Sunday and took a friend to Putah. I won't say the locations as I think that's the fun part of learning the creek but will report poor to okay fishing depending on how you look at it. In 3 hours we hooked in 6 fish. Only one being a solid 16" fought and spit the hook either taking a soft hackle hares ear or a black zebra midge. The other 4 all very small but hey the fishery is improving. Snapped a photo here of one just for fun. They sure are pretty and healthy. But seriously, no mid sized trout this outing. Usually I'll hook into 1-2 decent fish which you don't want to lose and then a few 9-13" which make the trip successful regardless. This time just 5-8" where the fish to hand.

Saw a nice 3' rattle snake up river near the dam. No warning rattle until we backed up a bit. That will make you walk a little slower... but everyone should know they are there and to aware.

I was out Saturday with a buddy. We fished all day at a couple areas. Best to hand for me was 20" and I missed a couple about that size. My buddy caught little more than a hand full. Fish are there you just gotta find them. I like fishing the high flows.
