Putah Creek Trout Celebration & Kids
Permalink

Hi everyone:

Just joined the forum, was planning on bringing my two daughters to the trout celebration this weekend... they're still pretty young so they'll have their kid spin rods, but any recommendation what I might rig them up with (knowing there's no bait, barbs)? Thanks, hope to see you out on the water.

Best,

Bryan

A plain ole roll cast with a fly rod is probably just as easy as casting a mickey mouse or donald duck spinning rod. Perhaps let them practice on the front lawn for a bit and then take turns once there on the creek. Less hassle trying to deal with 2 kids/ 2 poles at one time and perhaps keep their focus a bit longer?

Kastmasters work well. Pinch the barbs or replace the treble with a single hook. Welcome!

My little ones had a great time. We did do a little fishing, took your advice and went with a Kastmaster (single hook, barb-less)...no luck of course, but it was actually my first time seeing that far upstream, so it was worth it to get the lay of the land. We'll definitely camp there later this summer, might even try the float tube if conditions allow. Thanks to the resort and all who helped for a really great day.
