With snow on the mountains, clouds in the sky, and the sun peeking through, it promised to be an interesting, if cold day.


Well, it turned out to be not so cold, but very very slow, to the tune of 0 fish for me, for Yukon Mike, and for a guy whose name I think is Matt from Colorado (lives here now).  Matt fished four hours in the morning and got skunked.  Mike fished 3 hours in the afternoon and got skunked, and I fished 4 hours in the afternoon and got skunked.


Among the three of us, a lot of putah trout have come to hand, but not today.  Water was fast and cloudy (1 - 2 ft vis tops), and there was very little to no bug action.  A few mayflies about 1:00 and a straggler caddis or two.


I'd tell you what the flies of the day were, but that wouldn't do much good seeing as the only fish that took them were rock, moss, and tree fish.  In any event, it was a beautiful day -  the sun competing with storm clouds for superiority, and the mountains ever so green.  The fish had better things to do though like play in the snow in the hills north of Winters.


If you had luck today I'd love to hear about it.

I had a great time getting zinged by the fish who undoubtedly were entertained by lots of swearing and thrashing around in the creek. The things we do for entertainment. Just let me know when you are ready for more.

Yeah I had the same luck on Friday,with an aproaching storm and cold temps the fishing was really slow.I fished a access #5 for about 3 hours in the morning and managed to hook and almost land(does that count?) a very large rainbow on a black bwo pattern that I made up,size #16.Other than that not even a grab.But I was impressed with some of the water and a few of the subtle changes the creek has gone through since the 8000cfs flows.Well its just a matter of time till things start picking up again as the flows are steadily dropping and the glory hole is just a few inches over the top.

It's good to know that even Greg can have a bad day.  I have been out a few times since the flows went crazy with nothing more than a strike.  Last year the fishing was quite good during the winter with flows around a 100 or less, but they are dropping again and fishing will hopefully improve.  


On the upside, I floated the lower Sac with a friend yesterday, my first time and his third.  I managed a couple of nice rainbows around 15 in, one very fat like those in Putah.  I hooked that guy right at the top of a long riffle and had to drag him along until we got to calmer water.  He hung on and seemed no worse for the trip.

Hey guys,
Fished Sunday at area 5 for about three hours as well. Managed to land two fish, one about 12", and stuck a nice 18" fish, on the far side of the island. (Right where I ran into you Mike). Both fish on size 16 glo bugs. Headed back out on Wed.
