i have been fishing putah for a good time now and have seen patterns in bites with respect to the time of day. A good friend of mine said pepple use to call putah the 10 to 2 creek due to having much success during those times. of my own experience this tends to hold true. Not to say I haven't had success during other times of day but rather most of my best times have been before and around noon. Never had much success as far as the sun is heading down. Has anyone ever slammed them near dark?

The biggest fish come out near the sunrise and sunset. I've caught fish through out the day. Sometimes only in the morning and just before dark. The 10-2 doesn't hold true with me. I believe it all depends on temps, clarity, and weather.
My experience is similar although I would say 11 - 3 has been the best for me recently. The good thing is that I don't feel the need to get there by the break of dawn. However if you are the second fisherman in that run your odds definitely decrease.

Doug Swisher says that the best time to fish is the part of the day with the most comfortable weather. During the Winter, the warmest time of day is mid-day and consequently the insect activity has its peak. During warm weather, the most comfortable times of the day are early morning and late in the day. These periods are when the fish become more active. At Putah, however, I've always preferred to fish the early morning regardless of the time of the year. The fact that there are fewer anglers on the stream means that I have a much greater chance of fishing waters undisturbed by other anglers.
