Beware: firecrackers at Yuba
Permalink

A buddy of mine and I were fishing the lower Yuba today, North side of the river below the highway 20 bridge. We walked down the main trail and walked along the bank and fished that side. After about ten minutes, we heard a nearby explosion. I was further downstream, thought it was a shotgun going off. After it happened a few more times, my friend realized what was happening: a guy was throwing big firecrackers upstream of us and letting them float down. These things were huge – ear piercingly loud and shook the ground. We crossed and got the hell out of there, but they were getting pretty close and could do some damage if they had drifted closer. My friend and I stuck to the banks when getting down there, but apparently that wasn't enough to prevent upsetting the neighbors. Beware, someone is not happy with fly fisherman in that area. Fair enough, I imagine fisherman can be a pest in his backyard, but there's got to be a better way than throwing firecrackers at people legally accessing and fishing public water.

Beside that, got some action on soft hackles on spey at dusk. Overall, river is slow, slow, slow.

If he was doing that to me I'd set of a few from Mr .45. I've heard stories of that person from other fisherman. Dude is a douche bag.

Cal Fire would probably love to hear of somebody throwing lit m-80's. Heck Fish & Game might have an issue as well. Take photos next time and let the law run its course. :)
