so i went up to the creek yesterday just to mess around for a couple hours and i was under the bridge and seen a disturbance  and a family of otters came out of the water and jump up on to land a foot away from me. so i stood perfectly still and they just came right up on to the bank doing their thing eating crawdads then the moment i twitched my foot they all jumped into the water and swam off playfully. any one else had any cool animal experiences up at the creek

Yeah I've seen what's probably the same family of otters myself. They swam right by me when I was fishing below the staircase once. I've also had an otter swim right by me underwater once at deer sign, thought it was a huge trout at first. Seen plenty of snakes crossing/caught in the current as well. It's a blast to just be out there sometimes surround by all the wildlife.

There's a little yellow green bird that you se a lot around the creek.  I had one come and perch on my rod one day and it sat there looking at me until I shook it off.  It came back a few minutes later and again landed on my rod.  Very weird indeed.

I was wading across the creek at acces 5. About half way across I looked up and not 20 feet away was a buck with a nice 6/7 rack downstream of me coming the other way. We hadn't noticed each other until just that moment. My sound and scent must have been masked. Beautiful animal. He sauntered off after giving me a huff.

Please report Putah Creek otter sightings here:

www.arc.losrios.edu/Programs_of_Study/Science_and_Engineering/Natural_Resources/Sacramento_Valley_Otter_Project/Report_River_Otters.htm

I'm sure they are also keen on hearing about otters demonstrating higher function by fly tying and beer drinking...

Seeing largemouth bass in the creek was pretty surprising. I think the coolest thing I've seen was a big landslide happen when I was gearing up a few years ago, It was on the opposite side between access 2, and 3. Those beer drinking otters ain't just on putah, I see em from time to time at various rivers.
