So I was reading on Kiene's board that the Beardsley Afterbay has taken a big hit as far as fish are concerned. Anyone been out there this year with a different report? Apparently the fish were all eaten by a crazed pack of otters. Maybe it just fishes better in spring and fall?? Picked up an Orvis Access 4 wt 10 footer and it is super easy to cast a 5 wt camo intermediate. I would have to say a camo intermediate is the best way to fish some of the stillwaters! The tug is the drug!
I've float tubed the afterbay dozens of times. defenitly last year, and this year have been tough fishing. I've seen a few otters in there but not alot, May or may not have something to do with it. There alot of poaching that goes on there, Talked to the warden almost everytime there, and he says that he writes more tickets there then anywhere else he patrols. The best time to fish this place is a spring when the reservoir spills, fall can also be good. People don't fish dry's enough there, They wanna pull streamers on sinktips, or drag nymphs around.
That could explain a lot of what's going on around the state, a little too much poaching. Well I will give it a month and check out the Afterbay and a few spots downstream. I drove over 108 this weekend and the Middle Fork is looking pretty healthy still. Apparently the fish are mostly planters though.
