What's that hatching?

I fished the creek today and got a few fish (although my usual Putah stuff wasn't performing too well), but I stuck around late enough to see a couple of fish rise. I threw almost everything in my box, and nearly took a swim trying to catch a hatching bug. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what was hatching. Sort of big and grey, but behind that I didn't get a close enough look. Anyone know what the risers were sipping? I want to tie some similar-looking soft hackles.

Beers of the day: Racer 5 and Ninkasi Total Domination.

Vince

Most likely epeorus albertae or pink alberts. Size 14 soft hackle yellow to tan with a pink rib and a glass bead at the thorax or before you tie in the partridge hackle. http://www.west-fly-fishing.com/feature-article/0106/feature_536.php

Well if it was grey it might have been a larger BWO or gray drake. Never heard of any drake flies in the creek but I also never really saw a lot of the bugs that have recently been coming out either. Always learning something.

Thanks Chris!

I tied a soft hackle like that and had some fish on it! Great fun. I LOVE soft hackles. Thanks again.
