To be honest, I haven't fished the Yuba in close to 15 years. I'm sure others in here will chime in with suggestions on patterns. I'm guessing late evening small parachute anything and grasshopper patterns mid day tough I might be thinking about later int he Summer. Swinging a sparkling pupa midge used to work well in the summer as well. As mentioned it has been a few years.

The Yuba is hanging around 1500cfs and spring early summer is in full swing with Caddis, PMD, Little yellow sallies, and a few reports of early gold stones showing. The Yuba will fish well throughout the summer as long as flows stay up and stable. I like to nymph in the morning and then look for rising fish in the flats mid morning and then nymph again midday day until evening when fish start looking for caddis in the riffles. Hopper fishing should be good again this summer and as long flows stay up and the hoppers don't get baked on the rocks."
Translated in flies that means rubber leggs size 6-8, Hogan's Yuba pupa, fox poohpah in tan and green, and small size 16-18 S and Ms and pheasant tails. The best attractor pattern for the river is a red copper john size 12-16. If you are dry fly fishing use an EC caddis, X caddis or an X2 caddis. Oh and if you tie try tan and green soft hackles size 12-16 and hold on!!!
Some of the best fishing is usually upstream of the UC Property, but you will need to hike up about 45 minutes to an hour.
I'm sorry to say that I got skunked on Sat. It was HOT HOT HOT. Fished the southern section between 12:30 and 3:30 and fished the northern section between 4-5:30. Other people had success with Jimmy legs and micro may patterms. Threw off my waders during the second half which made a world of difference. I had a great time. That's why they call this fishing and not catching right? lol.
Thanks for posting this info. My buddy & i got picked for yesterdays fishout & had a great time. It was hot but we still got into some fish & were the last ones to leave.
I joined for the June 22nd date and have wanted to go back every weekend since! Man was this a blast. The fish were some of the most vigorous fighters I have had on my ultralight setup. They jump immediately after setting and took a long time to get in on 2lb test. All but one of the fish I landed that day was 20+. Wading that portion of the river is heaven. The riverbed is large clean riverstone and the water is chilled and crystal clear. Spent the day of the 23rd below the HWY20 bridge and it did not compare. I can't wait to go back next year!
Want to try something different? Use a cheap rubber raft and launch it at Englebright dam. Paddle across the lake and carry it down the hill to the river. Take about 100' of rope to portage around the one bad spot. Google earth is your friend.
