Anyone want to throw some dates around when you think we may be able to get out there and fish? I saw it flowing @ 7000cfs + this morning, and coming down ever so slightly, sure would like to get up there again. Having not fished the creek previously to this year for a bout 20yrs, are we done for the season? Patrick navigated me to a website that has some pics, and it weren't purty.
Its anybodys guess as to when we can get back to the creek,my assumption is that the heavy release of water is from the base of the dam not the overflow or otherwise known as the glory hole.If this is the case then its up to the dam operators as to when we fish again. My suggestion would be to keep an eye on this site and on the flow rates when you see the cfs around 300 and lower then it will be fishable depending on clarity.I will try to look at the creek and lake levels today myself and if I see anything different I will post it here asap.
I'm tempted to think that these flows would help blow some of the sediment, debris, garbage out of the upper reaches of the creek. Probably mooved a few snails in the process too.
There are some huge winter flows in major steelhead rivers that don't seem to be detrimental to the fish. I'm not sure why Putah would be any different. Greg might correct me but I don't see Putah as having a ton of spawning gravel. These flows may or may not help that case. They might expose more by flushing out the system or possibly disperse and eliminate others.
I'm sure some of the traditional holding water is going to change a bit. Some new favorite runs and the loss of others. The staircase changed quite a bit following the '96/97 winter granted a slide played a part in that one..
