Survey Problems and Colors
Permalink

Tried to submit two surveys from my last two trips and am getting an error page every time. Anyone else having the same issue? Any problems on the website end?

Also. Caught a parr today that was dark like a mature male spawner. Is this normal? I've had silver fish and dark fish to hand for the past few weeks, and I've been pulling both sorts out of non-spawning runs like guide hole and access 4. Does this coloration necessarily indicate spawning? Or is it simply a seasonal coloration change?

Color variation in small fish is common on PC and I have n't come across anything definitive in the trout literature. My theory is substrate color under the fish may affect their color: dark bottom, dark fish; light bottom, lighter fish. I base this on fish from Grizzly Forebay and creek below the dam. In the Forebay and below the canyon section, the fish are typical colors. In the canyon the creek flows over a black basalt bottom. The fish here were almost black to below the midline. They were very well camouflaged. Lots of dark rock in PC

I had the same problem on Sunday with the online angler survey. Not sure if my report made it or not.

Sorry, the Angler Survey is temporarily down.  It had to be moved to a different server.

It will be working again very soon.

Thanks Keith. Also, I looked up coloration and you're right Steve, has a lot to do with camouflage in relation to stream bottom composition.

Thanks Keith. A friend at Cramer Fish Sciences once told me that it took trout only a few minutes to change their coloring to match their habitat. You can literally watch them do it.

I remember the last hatchery truck I watched unload at Bucks Lake-they were black when they left the dark tank. Natures magic!
