Hey guys my name is Tyler and I'm 15 years old. Im an avid lure and fly fisherman. Ive read a lot about the creek and I am surprised I havent heard about it until now as I live an hour away from it. So now I am really wanting to go and I was just wondering if there were any rules or regulations I need to know about. Also I was wondering if there is anything else I need to know about it, where to go as far as fishing access and good spots, and if your willing to share some tactics and techniques. I am looking forward to trying it out and I promise to respect and keep it clean. Thank you and happy fishing. From, Tyler

Welcome Tyler. A couple of little things for you before you make your way out there. The creek is catch and release, artificial fly or lure year around. The fish are spawning right now so it is best to avoid fishing here until mid February. Make sure you pinch the barbs on your lures.

As far as places to go...the whole creek is fishy. You have an advantage with your lures from the bank in the flat water. Learn to read the currents, seems, and buckets.

If you struggle to find fish on the creek is does not hurt to go poke around Lake Berryessa. There are a ton of trout and bass in that lake that cruise the shore. Good luck out there.

Thanks for the info. I have been checking out a lot of the forum topics and seeing access #1,2,3,4 and 5. Where are those and how do i get to them? Also where is the best place to park on the creek?

Also I am planning to mostly use a fly rod because it is truly a lot more fun and more of a challenge.

Best to I can give you is explore the river. Spots change as the water fluctuates. Make sure not to bother fish that are on reds, no matter how large they may be.

there are probably over a thousand posts on people looking for advice about the creek, and there is a lot of good info in the responses.  Use the search feature, and you will find all the info you want, and then some.

I'll echo what drifter said... check into the old posts, LOTS of info there. I believe a Google search will pull you access maps, but they are right off of the main road. All are marked. If you are heading to Berryessa from Winters, the accesses will be on your left.

All fish are generally hard to catch if you're not using the proper setup... check the posts.

Thank you to everyone with all the help. I have one last question which you might not want to share and I respect that. Which access have you caught the most fish at? I looked at the access's on google maps and i'm thinking #2 but I want to hear from you and get the experts input.

That's very much dependent on flow and time of year. Try keeping a journal as you fish noting when and where you catch fish, on what pattern, observed bugs in the air and from flipping rocks/seining, and at what level of flow. Greg's site here has a handy little link to the USGS monitoring site. You'll be surprised at how informative this data can be.
