Heritage and Wild Trout is requesting volunteers to help with putting up posts and signage to demarcate the spawning areas under study. This is a followup to my earlier post under spawning area clean up. Below is the the link to the sign up spreadsheet; anyone should be able to sign on.
Note that this a weekday, but we really need as many volunteers as possible. Also, if you have a post driver for metal T fencing posts, please bring it along. Cordless drills/screw drivers may also be useful. Posts and other supplies are provided.
steve,it looks like i can make it due to the fact that its gonna be a rainey next 5 days shutting down our landscaping projects, i also have a post driver and cordless drill i will bring. ps bring the rain coats! bono
This event is now scheduled for this Friday, December 7-same details and use the link below to sign up. I have not removed any names from the spreadsheet. Please reconfirm or remove your name. Hope to see you there (no rain on the horizon for Friday.
Went excellently. Mark, Lowell, Chris, Kip, Jason, myself helped Stephanie and Cameron of DFG. Richard Loft had cut some backing boards that worked well. Here are a view shots of the operation.
The creek is clearing, new silt at Thompson Canyon Creek mouth on the resort obiliterated about a third of the spawning area on the south side-the gravel is covered with 12-18" of mud. The resort side area is in good shape and the other 3 sites were not much affected.
The signed areas are very obvious-no excuses about not knowing there are spawning fish. PCT and DFG will be monitoring these areas for vandalism to the signs and fishing activity. The signs, posts and other accessories are government property. We would appreciate posts to this site if you observe damage. As always, if you come across people fishing, kindly/gently remind them that these are official restoration sites being studied by DFG as well as the dangers to the health of the fish. During the past two spawning seasons over 330 different instances of fishing the redds were captured by photography; over 30 fishermen were captured standing in the redds.
