Similar to my last 2 October trips to Putah Creek, I caught lots of small fish 6-12 inches on small BWO patterns on surface and subsurface. This is most likely because I was fishing the surface to many rising fish. I suspect bigger fish are feeding deep as usual, and may be transitioning upstream to start spawning. I identified some spawning fish across and down from me. I'm hoping noone finds them, although their huge rises may give them away. I noticed no one parked at access 5. I'm assuming the lion has people spooked.

Karel: the large fish are on the move to big or hard to get to water nearer the spawning sites. At 250 cfs some of them were holding in buckets in riffles, but they seem to have moved on-not enough cover at 125 cfs. PC fish are often on the move when flows start bouncing during fall-winter-just keep looking and trying different water.
