Took my kayak out today and "drifted" guides hole. Lots of action mid to lower part of the run. Mostly toward the far bank and mid stream. No way to get those drifts without floating it at these flows. Certainly a challenge trying to play a fish as it takes you downstream into overhanging trees!
I then crossed over to the other side and worked the run above. Caught most of my fish on #20 BWO nymphs. I've been using a new technique for my droppers that I think works great... I tie a blood knot connecting leader to tippet to my point fly and then attach my dropper by using a looped perfection loop that tightens just above the blood knot. It's much easier to change out flies or replace the dropper line when it gets mangled.
