Hit the creek with Richard. Met DrDan and had a nice chat. It's always cool when you meet a fellow poster and they turn out to be nice in person.

Had a decent day, nothing spectacular. Had 11 fish on and again, only 4 to hand. Only getting about a quarter of my fish to hand these days and boy do they like to go aerial. Two of em were very nice size, in the 2-4 lb range and surprisingly still pretty chrome in comparison to a few of the little ones I landed. Though it seems as though most of the fish are starting to darken already.

As for bugs, there was a nice caddis hatch midmorning, lots of super pale-greenish ones coming off. In the size 16-18 range. Later in the day there were clouds of small mayflies.

Didn't have any caddis that color in the box so I stuck to midges and mayflies, and they definitely produced. Takes were strong today, full indicator drag down, not stops or hesitations.

Spotted several pods of fish feeding in some of the weedier glides, the stuff that's not easily fishable from shore. There were three nice 16"ish fish and another pod of smaller 10"ers in some of the glides up by access 1, and sighted an absolutely huge fish cruising upstream middle of the day. 20+ easy.

And yes Steve, survey filled out!

Thanks Coolbee for the report, especially on seeing pods of fish and bugs. I don't think pods have been mentioned by posters the past few years-they used to be pretty common. You might try drifting an emerger in the film in the weedy areas. One of my favorites tricks is a small tan buoyant caddis skittered across the surface of seams just before dark. If it sinks, the smaller fish will attack it with a quick retrieve action. Do it along the rocks near shore as well-lots of fish hanging around them. By stripping the fly the movement makes it more visible in the fading light and the strikes are aggressive.
