Good article in field and stream on the rules of the river.  Take a look, all of need to be reminded from time to time.  Going into the fall season it would be nice if we could all read this and share the river.  In my experience I have had more positive encounters then negative on the creek, however the negative ones seem to stick out more in my mind.

Some good points in there.  As my dad would say "common sense is not so common".  The thing that gets me is the guys that swing for steelhead.  Most people talk about working a run, moving down every 2-3 casts and covering water but I rarely see it.  Most guys park their asses for 2 hours in the same spot, never move and then get pissed if you start 200 yards below them in the run.  Sorry but that's not low holing a guy.  If I approach a lineup I always start up top.  But if there's only 2-4 guys in a big run I ask a question that I am always going to get a yes answer to.  Here's how it goes...."Hey you guys moving through or should I start up top"?  Yes we are moving through and yes you should start up top.  Done deal.  Nobody's feelings are hurt that way.  Plus it's hard to move that often when you're standing on a crate.

I had someone fish right above me and my gf a couple weeks ago but it wasn't 200 yrds away. This fisherman stood 20 yrds away from us. We were literally there for 10-15 min. I got so irritated that we left and returned a couple hrs later. What irritated me was I was teaching my gf and when the other fisherman started fishing above us she was restricted to water literally in front of her. When we came back to that spot we caught fish, it's not like because someone fishes there you need to throw your line in before someone else does. Cole, your dad said it best, "Common sense isn't so common."

My rule is, if I can cast and hit you with my fly than you are too close. It just so happens I can get cast pretty damn far. I like my personal fishing space bubble. biggrin

I really thought of casting at his indicator but catching a couple fish right next to him while he put up a big ZERO felt a little better.

If I'm anywhere near other fisherman it usually means I didn't walk far enough.
