Just returned from Henrys lake area of Montana Idaho, just outside of west Yellowstone. I went with my 17 yr old son Nick and my buddy Pete and his 18yr old son Vinny. We fished the Henrys fork, Red Rock creek, Henrys lk,Hebgen lk, Hidden lk,Firehole river, Madison river and the Gibbon river. We were there for 8 days and had a blast catching some nice fish. My son hooked but lost a rainbow at least 10 lbs swinging a streamer on the Henrys fork and we both caught 22" cutthroat on a little spring creek as well as some really nice grayling about 16-18" long. The fishing was a little slower than in years past, I think due to higher than normal temps, but we still caught our share and had a blast doing it!Cant wait till next year! Greg
It does sound like a great trip. My brother and I used to fish Idaho and Montana in late Sept. We did it for over 25 years. We'd hit Silver Creek and the Henry's Fork on the drive up and then head up to Livingston to fish the spring creeks (Armstrong, Nelson, and Depuy's). Of course, we'd fish in the Park, but we really loved the dry fly fishing that the spring creeks provided. We haven't gone since the late 90's when medical issues started slowing us down. The best part of fishing that area is the variety of fishing. Virtually every type of fishing is available and you usually don't have to drive for hours to get there. I'm glad you had a great trip. I'm jealous!
