I'm packing the camping gear in the car and heading for the hills where it will only be 95 degrees. Silver Fork probably, to fish in the morning and evening and find a nice plunge pool to sit in in the midday hours.
Great job Cole!! The Durango was sent to pasture this weekend so the only battles I had were with the dealers... No doubt that is the Upper Sac. I heard the railroad has been shutting down prime access this year. No more driving into the prime areas.
I did have a great time watching the Giants put up big numbers on the Rockies!! Hunter Pence hit a game winning homer today!

I didn't exactly escape the heat this weekend, but went straight to it. I was checking weather all over the state and realized it was going to be hot from Bishop all the way to Yreka. So I put my map on the wall and threw a dart. I got away for 4 days on a completely last minute, kamakazi, really need to get out there, don't even bother calling the bro's, better have the dishes done, oil change and truck wash can wait, not enough flies in the box, kiss the kid and wife on the way out kinda trip. You know....one of those weekends. Having said that I had a pretty good time despite very thin hatches and lots of heat. The only thing I forgot was the waders and that was on purpose. Man I love wet wading. I like fishing with friends too but sometimes a solo trip is in order......I also found a pretty cool waterfall to chill at.
I got to silver fork camp about 8pm Friday night and it was full already so I ended up roughing it by the side of the road up by the bridge. Hit the creek early and tried some of the deep holes with a streamer but no luck. When the sun got up they began hitting dries and I got a few on the dropper too. All very small fish with one about 11 inches.
Called it a day about 3pm after tearing up my big toe on a boulder...wet wading in Tevas is not a good idea. Packed up camp and was back home by 7.
Thanks Chris. Yeah the sac is a great river. Sorry to hear about your rig. You need that to get to the honey holes. I got into most the spots I wanted to fish. Didn't experience too many problems there. Apparently they have been citing people for parking at the main access area to the falls. A lady got hit by a train last year and they are trying to keep people off. It's a damn skinny section of railroad to get there. The lady that got hit lived apparently though. She must have just gotten clipped cuz those big trains could turn you into a bowl of oatmeal. All you have to do is go a little further up and there's a tailout you can cross to get up there. Didn't make it to Cantara, way too hot up there but I pulled a gorgeous little redband outta Mossbrae. Also fished the middle river quite a bit and down to Gibson where I saw a trout as big as a steelhead that must have been from the lake. The new Sage ONE is a whiskey stick and every chance I get to use it is awesome. Bob, one of these days I am going to explore that stream and see if there's any browns around still that will eat a dry fly.
Nice Cole! I've been meaning to head out that way and pay a little visit to the falls. Always a good time. I just can't wait for October and then that river will be prime time!
Sweet Cole, way to go for it!!! Man on a mission complete. Won't be long to start missions for the grey ghosts.
What up with the surf fishing Shon? I've been hitting the beaches lately trying for a stripers south of the city and been picking up perch further north. Great fun on the fly and a great way to beat the valley heat..
