Fished a few early hours this morning with a stoned nymph and a caddis nymph. Got into a ton of action. If anyone is wondering if they should hit the Truckee the answer is yes.
I hit up the canyon and did great both mornings. Early. Early for the fish and the other fisherman. Lot of people on the river but most wait for the sun to come up, I wouldn't.
Me and Richard were up there yesterday. Didn't do as well as you but the river is definitely fishing. Started the day out around 9:30 at Glenshire picking up a buncha small parr. Midday headed to the canyon. Midday is sllllowwwww. I'd say it's almost more worth your time to go grab a brew or two when the sun's beating down than it is to fish. The canyon was slow for us, more parr, and Richard stuck a 5 lb sucker. Not too exciting but hey, at least they pull line. I finally started hooking decent sized fish when I decided to flip some rocks. I've heard y'all talking about it before but never actually done it. Saw a bunch of small (18-22) mayflies in gray and olive, lots of caddis in green and tan/orange (14-16) and some small yellow stones (~16). Tied on a stone, PT, and WD40 and started getting whacks. A couple nice sized fish in the canyon that both got off. Ended the day back up at Glenshire below Boca where I finally landed a nice little 2lbr dead-drifting, and a couple smaller risers on the swing that were slashing just subsurface on shallow glide. Get up there and have some fun fellas. Keep in mind that angling pressure is pretty high right now.
There were a lot of fisherman up there this weekend. Mostly up above boca or just below it. I hit up the area around the beaver dam and lower. I did pretty well and surprisingly got most of my fish mid day, just gotta know where they stage mid day and they'll eat your fly.
