thanks Cole! i use that fly on the top tag, about 12 under the surface, then at the end of the drift its swung into the film. Fish seem to follow it, then when it rises to the surface the take and turn, which feels incredible, then when they start to run hang on......
its a simple may fly emerger but insted of the thorax being a film of sorts like a copper john, use CDC to create the wing case. also dab a bit of floatant into it like frogs fanny to create a nice air bubble.

I was one of the lucky winners two weeks back for the Yuba County Fish and Game Commission day at the UC property. My name was drawn for the event! No one else went up the jeep trail, so I had the entire upper stretch of the property to myself. Fishing started picking up around 11:00 am. I was lucky enough to get a number of fish in the the 13"-16" range. Nothing real small or big. All fish were beautiful and very healthy. There was a small hatch of PMD's and a couple of double winged things that looked like Yellow Sallies. Only a couple of fish rose, mostly little guys. It was largely an underwater game.
Micro Mays worked well but the fly of the day was a Dark Lord in size 16-18. I don't think I had ever thrown one on the Yuba, but they were after it this day.
Living in EL Cerrito, wher 80 degrees is a hot day just doesn't prepare well for a day in 96 degree weather. It was cooking, especially off the water where the sun is just bouncing back off of the rocks. All in all another great day, especially not running into any rattlesnakes this year.
Bob you have been bringing back the old dark lord last couple years. Maybe it never went away??? Great fly, I took a couple on that thing last weekend up north.
