I was just on the Kiene's board and saw that Lance Gray is doing an instructional day the 25th. Sounds like he's going over techniques, bugs and other environmental concerns. Anyone heard about this or know what's going on? 135$ a head so he must be doing some fishing as well.
Lance is a great guide and teacher. He has fished Putah for many years. He has not guided Putah for some time as he mostly guides around the Willows area. He guides the Lower Sac, Feather and Lake Almanor. According to his website http://www.lancegrayandcompany.com he is also now guiding the Yuba. He specializes in clinics. He has run a Feather River Spey Clinic for the past few years. Lance and Lincoln also have an Almanor/stillwater clinic. If you want to figure out the Hex Hatch he and his brother Lincoln have been fishing Almanor for many years. I picked his brain on our guide trip and was able to figure out the Hex Hatch. If you haven't seen a Hex Hatch and all the fish in a lake rising at the same time you need to check in with Lance and company. See the Stillborn Hex his brother ties in the Feb 2012 Cal fly fisher. Lance also has some great ties like the X-man mayfly!
Seems like a great guy. I have never met him but he did help us at the Steelhead fest by donatiing a guided trip. Everyone was talking about that hex clinic they do.
I just took Lance to Putah a couple of weeks ago, he was looking for info about the creek to write an article for the California Fly Fisher magazine. And he did mention that he wanted to do a tour at Putah, which are the same kind of tours he does on other waters. From what he said it will be himself and one other guide/ helper for a period of time with 6 or so clients. It was a pleasure meeting him and fishing with him, he's a real nice guy.
