First post since the new forum. Much better this way. Was getting out of control with all the absurdly angry and pointless posts on the previous forum.
Anyway, fished from 3:00 til dusk yesterday (sunday) and was blown away at how low the water was. Nonetheless, found a few spots that produced a few grabs in fast water by tight-line nymphing. Fish were rising (really just puddling and midging - lots of fins visible), so I tied on a tiny low profile mayfly dry with a skinny emerger pattern on an 8 inch dropper. First cast landed me a nice fish - think about 19 inches. Amazing how fish that big make such a small ring when feeding on emergers.
Anyway, a couple more grabs on the emerger and one on the mayfly and then it was dark.
For those of you who haven't fished the creek in this slow water, my suggestions are to find fast water that give fish some cover, and if fishing dries and it's glassy calm like it was last night, use at least 6x tippet. Presentation is key with the small flies, clear water, low flow, and picky fish. If you're getting no grabs, see if you can see what bugs are floating on the surface of just in the film, and tie on something similar. If you can't see your emerger pattern tie on a small parachute adams or something to act as an indicator/spotter fly. Who knows, you may even get a grab on that.
