Kind of a weird part of the year. Maybe folks are tying to keep their boxes full, some maybe keeping up with steelhead flies, some maybe gearing up for spring already? What's everyone tying out there??? Curious to know.
I take this time of year to re tie everything I've went thru in the regular season. Got to get ready for the spring! The next few months is usually my down time from fishing, except from the occasional trip to the Yuba. So it's a good time for me to tie. I should start tying more steelie flies, maybe that will make me get out there and chase some steel for a change. Other than that I'll pretty much just be tying my regualar old trout flies for Putah/UpperSac/NFF etc. I like to start the season with a full box.
I am tying Baja flies in anticipation of non-female impeded fishing in Mexico 2012. I can use these same flies for the Delta fishing trip this Thursday. Gummies, clousers and surf candy!
I already have a stockpile of steelhead flies since I haven't fished for them since 2007. Might do some this year.

tying does it ever stop. I guess it would stop if i stopped fishin. steelhead flies are on tap crossed over with trout flies since I'm using trout tactics to catch steel in the cold clear water. than there's a few clousers for my lunchtime fix. I try to do my part in keeping the striper population down. that's about it. gotta take advantage of the long nights and tye some flies. days are short, i was tying in the back of my truck a few nights ago. trout tactics.
Otter, yes Trinity, the river was pretty good to me last week. I think this week is a diferent story up there, even colder and now the cold has the water down around 41. it was 26 than 27 at day break each morning I woke up. Lots of ice. As for stripers , I cast on the shores of benicia, different shorelines for different tides and wind direction .
