Went for a little drive in the rain yesterday for an itch to do some fishing on my favorite river, and it paid off well. For the most of the time it was raining but there were a few breaks through out the day. I was set on this river for a certain hatch but the cold weather kept them sleeping but midges and an epic PMD hatch in the rain was awesome. Small pmd dries in the rain did extremely well. It was cold, hands and feet were numb and it was raining pretty tough.. but when the fishing is good you don't leave! As I was walking up stream I came across a sign (pic posted below) that someone made to dedicate a certain fishing hole to somebody, which was pretty awesome I thought. I checked out the spot that the trail lead to and I had an epic dry fly session in the rain. There was fish rising everywhere! I ended up landing lots of fish off small pmd's, the biggest being a fat 18"er. There was many fish landed and many fish lost but It was a great day aside from the weather which almost made me not want to go, glad I didn't stay at home, and I'm especially glad I came across "Zeen's hole".
It's the Upper Sacramento. I've fished alot of places in California but that river is still my favorite place to fish in the state. (Aside from Putah of course )
Its only a 3 hour drive so not too bad. It's worth the drive everytime for sure. If I had a ferrari on i5, I think I would cut my drive time in half. Along with a ton of speeding tickets.
