I went to bridgeport this weekend and fished my ass off. Saterday, sun. and most of the day monday . Lots of other people doing the same . On my way home late monday I got a good look at the West Walker besides the flows being pretty high How does it fish ? Lots of really fast water , and it looks really steril !
I havn't fished the WW in years but used to do really really well just below Levit meadows. Most people fished down at Pickle meadows instead.
The area has a lot to offer; WW in the canyon below Levitt meadows, Levitt meadows, Pickle meadows, Kirman lake, Rosevelt lake/Lane lake. Rosevelt and Lane are only about an hour hike.
Rainbows and Browns in the WW, Cuthroats in Rosevelt/Lane and Brookies in Kirman. Rosevelt is the only place I've ever fished where birds (Westrn Tanager) would land on your pole while your fishing.

West walker, The river around pickle meadows and the marine corp base from my experience is mostly planters, Not very good fishing. If you go down river past the sonora bridge day use area where the river goes away from the road you will begin to get into pretty good fishing for mostly wild fish, Further you go better it is. The other section along 395 down into the antelope valley again is mostly a planter river, Some quit large I believe are Alpers trout. In my opinion there are better options in the area. Thats my 2 cents take it for whats its worth.
