Putah Creek is squeaky clean

I want to thank the 15 volunteers, more than half of that number from this board, for spending their Saturday morning picking up the refuse from the bridge parking lots down to fish access five. We collected 34 bags of recyclables and trash-at least 175 pounds worth, had a nice lunch, and then some went fishing.

Some highlights:

We pulled a picnic table out of one of the riffles at access 5. It was too heavy to carry out, so now there is a nice lunch table to use during your fish trip. It's just off the trail on the northeast corner where the Creek starts to braid to form the island. Later  Otter and I watched two young kayakers take a dump and spend 45 min.  dislodging their kayak from a Willow tree strainer at #5. Fortunately for them, the water was only about 18 inches deep, otherwise they might have drowned.

A go kart was found at access 3, but was lodged under a fallen tree trunk so it couldn't be recovered.

Few, if any, bait containers were recovered-a good sign.  Most of the fishing trails   in  the usual hotspots are heavily overgrown indicating few people fishing. Take your garden snips if you value your waders.

 Our crew:

Robert ( Lightfoot)   Rich (Packrat )  Richard (RLoft) Greg ( Bono) & sons   Kip and Margaret Larsen  Hadley Johnson  John Reynold   Cal Zamora   Suzanne Tay  Jeremiah (Rossflyguy)   Chris (Dr. Chris)  & son   The other Chris (Otter)     Cliff (Emerger) Larry Lack of Cast First(Marin)  Steve (SK60)

Special thanks to  Otter and Emerger for replacing regulation signage that had been torn down.

I hadn't been to a Putah clean up event in about 5 years.  Had a good time, got to talk somebodys ear off and DIDN"T even catch poison oak.

Thanks to all that participated
