I've been to several fly fishing shops the last few months looking for saddle hackle. I've been told by several shops that hair dressers are buying up a lot of the larger feathers. My wife tells me that the feathers are used as adornments on women's hair and also used to make parts of necklaces. Why would a hackle producer sell a cape to fly fishing shops when they can make $10 a feather selling to hair dressers? We can only hope that this fashion fad dies out soon.
You know I was just joking around.... It is just crazy though!! I was trying to find some brown saddle hackle for the wiggle tails and there really is none to be found for a reasonable price. I have a big backyard... What kind of chickens have those long saddle hackles???
Otter call up Fly Fishing Specialties off 80 and Antelope, if they dont have it no one will. But they keep a good stock of everything.
