October is a great time to high stick for fish. Tonight I fished the upper bridge for the first time in at least 18 months. The crowds at the bridge have always kept me away, but I pulled in and there were only a couple of cars in the lot. I fished about fifty feet below the bridge for about an hour and didn't catch a thing. I moved to just under bridge and fished right at the north column. I put on one No 1 weight and a size 22 black midge and caught four fish in half an hour. I lost the biggest fish about 16" and decided to move upstream for awhile. After catching a few fish about twenty feet upstream. I moved back to the bridge column. I put on some more weight and landed four more fish including a 16" er. I think it was the same fish I lost earlier. Three of the fish were those dumb planters, but it was still a lot of fun. The top of the riffle at access #2 has been consistent in the evenings as well. The pocket water between #2 and #3 has been the best though.
