I guess I'll be the first to post about the Putah Creek Trout fish-out this past Saturday. I've been working way too much so far in 2011. It was only my fourth day of fishing this year, so I was really looking forward to it, regardless of flows.
The Lower Yuba was running very high, somewhere around 6000-6500 cfs. Sadly, it is true, Otters do not rise before 9:00 am, as Chris was nowhere to be found at the 8:15 am arrival. The Yuba was ripping to say the least. The weather was beautiful. Fishing was very good, maybe excellent considering the conditions. Many fish hooked, somewhat less landed, but good results. Many who fishede landed 5-9 fish. As advertised, most fish were in eddies, seams and slack water for the most part.
There was a good PMD hatch that went on around mid-day. Downstream even had a decent 1 1/2 hour rise to this hatch. Steve Karr was chef extraordinaire. Friendship was enjoyed by all attendees once again. I think Craig Gittings got it down to 4 galloons per passenger by piling 5 into his Suburban. I'm sure they got a quantity discount at every drive-in they stopped along the way.
Once again, I was very glad that I was able to attend and enjoy the day.
