Up around Arnold two weeks ago...Ahhh, good luck. Still lots of snow. I called the ranger station today-Beaver Creek remains inaccessible. Not too sure about tomorrow, but you can bet the water will be high and cold!

Yup, did the same and was shocked how much snow is still up there. I expected some, but it sounds like they are running a good 2 months behind the average. The guy I did speak to tho said that if you can get back there, it is probably going to be pretty good.
Was trying to beat the holiday weekend crowds but look like it is not meant to be. I am not hiking 4 miles through the snow...
As of May 16th the road through Big Trees is not open to both the Stan and/or Beaver. But they may have opened it this week, not sure. It sounds like Boards Crossing will be inaccessible as well. Spicer.... Don't even think about it.
Btw I haven't even cought one fish or even seen a fish in Beaver Creek for the last two years, when accessed through Boards Crossing. It's in pretty sad shape. I used to love my days on that creek but now I just get depressed and head out. I got up there about this time last year and had it to myself but nothing no fish caught no fish seen, just one bear way up top above the little beaver confluence.
Have you guys fished that area with any good results in the past two years? Am I missing something? It just seems to have gone way down hill.

I fished it last year about this time and had the same result. Water was a little high but fishable, did not see one fish.
I was afraid of that. I hope things turn around for the creek, but with the easy access and the current regs I feel it's not likely to be any time soon. It's depressing that things have to get real bad before anything gets changed.
I have noticed that a couple of small creeks that I have fished in the past seem to now be void of fish as well. I was guessing that the low water year 3 years ago had really decimated those streams? None are fished much but had held very good populations of fish before those low water years. Strange.
I have fished it with good success the last few years, but timing is critical. Unlike most, the issue is usually too little water rather than too much. When the flows are right there, it can be solid.
People are very lazy. While access is very easy, 99% of the people stop at the N Fork and fish that.

Are they oficially closed to vehicle traffic or just not passable to vehicle traffic.....big difference.
Below about 5,500 feet I would expect very little snow, with some accumulation holding on in the shaded areas and North facing slopes.

It is my understanding that the road through Big Trees was previously closed due to a locked gate that would have prevented vehical access. That report was from 5/16. It is also my understanding that that gate is now unlocked and open for vehical access as of 5/25. The report was unclear if there is any "good access" at all, to the river or the creek.
Dream flows shows the river running at about 1400cfs and 44*. In addition the weather reports on 5/25 stated that as much as another foot of snow would fall over the day as low as 5500 feet.
If you haven't been up to the mountains this spring, I can tell you there is much more snow than of any recent years.
Edited for Update: I just got of the phone with Brian at Big Trees, the park is open for camping. There's patchy snow throughout the park. Many trails have trees downed. Both the river and the creek are some what accessable. Also I've heard through another sorce that there is some hope that the road to Sourgrass campground will be open as well ( though this report was indefinite). I hope this info is of some help.
