I traveled earlier this week to Bridgeport via Markleeville and the Monitor Pass.  If any of you have the opportunity to travel over the Monitor Pass, do so.  The views of the eastern sierra valley from 9000 feet is awesome.  Made my way to the West Walker by Pickel Meadow and hiked in about a mile.  I found a nice 50 foot stretch with constantly rising rainbows.  Hoppers were all over the place, so I tied one on and attempted to shoot as close to the opposite bank and possible and let it drift.  Needless to say it was tons of fun and lots of 12 to 16" rainbows.

The following morning I surveyed Green Creek just south of Bridgeport.  After traveling up the dirt road for 7 or 8 miles I found that the flows were just too low for any type of serious action so I thought I'd check out the East Walker.  The East Walker flows are still high, but I saw a few guys nymphing by the damn.  Time to move on.

I went over the Sonora Pass and checked out Kennedy Meadows.  The flows looked really good, but I decided to keep trekking until I hit the MF Stanislaus around the Pinecrest area.  That was a blast.  Hiked upstream on a dirt road next to a bridge about a mile and worked my way back.  The water was perfect and the trout were eager to rise just below the riffles.  The weather was in the mid-60's in the afternoon, but its getting awfully cold on the other side of the sierras at night (in the 20's).

I don't know if anyone reads my threads, but if you do I hope you can some useful info.  I am hoping to make my way up to the MMF in the next month before the weather turns sour.

Patrick:  I read 'em.  thanks for the info. I'm going to be heading up that way in a couple of weeks.  I probably will fish the MF of the Stan.

I'm glad you do Bill.  I just don't want to be talking to myself any more than necessary.    I took off highway 108 onto Spring Gap road towards Sand Bar Flats.  I haven't fished that area since I was a kid (gulp) and I was happy to go back.  Lots of changes especially around the Clark's Fork area that weren't of the positive sort, but I did have a coyote jump in front of my car.

Tight lines.
