Summary results for the first three years of the online angler survey are posted below. Assigning significance to the data obtained from angler surveys is usually difficult from a science standpoint. That said, it is still an important tool for DFG's evaluation of the fishery.
2008: 1002Fish, 391 Reports; average catch 2.56-0.58 per hour, 68% wild 2009: 389 Fish,139 Reports; average catch 2.08-0.55 per hour, 93% wild 2010:316 Fish, 107 Reports; average catch 2.95-0.75 per hour, 100% wild
Highlights:
-During the last year of planting in 2008, more than half the fish reported being caught were described as wild.
-During both 2009 and 2010, the number of individual reports fell off significantly. Was the reporting honeymoon over, or were people just not fishing or were they completing the paper forms instead?
-During 2010, there were more multiple fish catches reported and fewer skunks, reflected in the increase in the average catch. The time required to catch one fish dropped from two hours in 2008 and 2009 to 1.3 hours in 2010. Most the fish caught in 2010 were 14" or under.
-In all three years, most of the large fish were reported caught during the spawning season, November-February.
Said many times before, but still worth repeating. Please complete either an online survey or a angler box survey each time you fish the Creek. It's the easiest way available to you to contribute to improving and protecting our wild fish.
