Not much to say, went to putah today and fished from from noon til dark. No fish, no takes. this makes 3 goose eggs in a row at putah and one at AR. Next week I think I'll go to the stanislaus, its usually a good slump breaker.
I will be at the yuba fri and sat but the stan sounds like a nice change up haven't been in a while any reports on how it is fishing this time o year ?
My dad went 2 weeks ago and said it was a little slow, but. it can be pretty good in the winter. I like going this time of year because its one of the few places that can provide some good dry fly action in the winter (albeit for the smaller fish) and it hosts a small run of steelhead so you have a chance to hook a big bruiser while fishing for the smaller resident rainbows. The downside to fishing it in the winter is the crowds can be pretty bad because it's one of the few places open. good luck on the yuba.
My brother and I were there too. He had a few missed takes. I got the smelly skunk all day. We stayed on the river til dark. Talked to one other angler he said "it's slooooooooooooow"
The water level dropped significantly through the day, that didn't help
Putah is just a tough fishery. No doubt its the toughest place I fish. As for the stan. I've been there alot this year, I will say this...I wouldn't bother this weekend, Theres no water coming over the dams so the entire dam area is just a slow pool of foam. I'd look elsewhere for this weekend.
